Services

I work with small and independent businesses, offering content services, particularly content strategy, blog writing, and web copywriting services:

I also offer additional services around blogging, copywriting and content marketing, like proof reading, social media copy, image sourcing and WordPress services

While I can offer these as standalone services, I normally offer them as ‘add-ons’, or as part of a content package.

Its kinda like upgrading your order to a full meal, by adding fries and a diet coke.

Blogging & Content Services

Content brings people to your products and services.

Great content though, pulls customers into your story, offers them value, and builds up trust.

Essentially, it keeps people looking around your site. It persuades people to a) like you and b) see that you are the expert.

Ultimately, it brings you closer to the endgame: great content, in front of the right people, helps to sell your product or service.

Luckily, when it comes to planning and writing share-worthy content for brands and businesses, I’ve got you covered, whether you need a full content strategy or a series of blog posts.

Content Strategy

I’ll learn about you, your business and the needs and challenges of your audience to plan out engaging, strategic blog content for the next 3, 6 or 12 months.

First, you can tell me all about your business and your customers, and we can discuss the goals you’re hoping to achieve with content, and you can ask me any questions about the process

Then I’ll conduct any research necessary to understand your niche, work out the kinds of problems we can solve for your ideal customer, get to know your unique voice, and research specific topics and keywords, to develop a content strategy for your blog.

Finally, we’ll iron out any changes, and agree on final topics, titles, keywords, additional services, and precise timelines and costs.

I can then get cracking to deliver your awesome new blog posts on a weekly basis, or you can assign a day every week over to executing your new content strategy, or even delegate it to someone on your team or to a VA – the choice is yours.

If you’re short of time or resources to execute on your spiffy new content strategy I’m available to research, write and deliver your blog posts on a weekly or monthly basis, too. Learn more about my blog writing services.

Blog Writing

All the content I deliver is top quality: well-written, properly researched, 100% original, thoroughly proofread, and written in a voice to suit your business and appeal to your audience.

Posts are delivered a week ahead of the scheduled date (or as agreed), with a catchy headline, a 150-character meta description and targeting specific keyword for SEO purposes. I also offer three minor revisions to every post, within 10 days of delivery.

You understand the SEO and audience-building benefits of blogging for your business, I can research and write regular posts aligned with your brand and your audience (executing on your content strategy).

We can think up blog post and article topics on the fly, but I think we both know that having a plan in place (to engage, inform and move your readers towards your end goal) is far more likely to yield meaningful results. Learn more about my content strategy services.

Copy & Ad Hoc Writing Services

Website Copywriting

How long is it since you updated your home, about or work-with-me pages? You probably get the most traffic moving right through these top pages, so use them to nab potential customers.

If the words on your website are out of date, boring or just not appealing to your audience, I can research and write website content and copy, to improve onsite SEO and speak to your audience (in a voice they understand).

I’ll conduct research and propose themes and styles for each page of copy. This will generally include homepage copy (AKA your virtual storefront), plus three static pages:

      • About The essential information about you and your business, and more importantly how you help your customers
      • Pricing/Packages Typically the second-most-visited page on a site (after the homepage). Know your worth (and persuade your customers of your worth) with can’t-live-without-it persuasive copy (without being sales-y).
      • Product/What we Do Exactly what makes your product or service unique, and (you’ve guessed it), what makes it valuable to your customers.

As you can probably tell, the most essential part of writing great copy is make it about the customer, and why they need your stuff. I focus on putting your customers (and would-be-customers) at the heart of your business.

One-off pieces of content

I also write one-off pieces of marketing content, to help you promote your business, on an ad-hoc basis.

One-off pieces of content could include eBooks and whitepapers; case-studies; product descriptions and feature pages; articles and press-releases; and print materials

  • eBooks and Whitepapers

eBooks and whitepapers are long-form, stand-alone pieces of content. They can can make great marketing and sales assets, either acting as a lead-magnet for top-of-funnel prospects (by using them to collect sign-ups for future drip-marketing campaigns), or to drive prospects towards closing, with in-depth and helpful product or industry information.

I can conduct research (via existing materials on the topic, extensive online research or even in an interview with you or your team), and turn that into a valuable, downloadable piece of content, like an eBook or Whitepaper.

  • Case-studies

Case-studies are an effective way to put the phrase ‘show, don’t tell’ into practise.

By telling prospects about the challenges you helped your existing customers to overcome, you’re giving them a way to connect the dots between what you do and the tangible benefits your customers actually see.

  • Product descriptions and feature pages

Product descriptions and feature pages are the pieces of copy that should move your customer towards their purchase decision. They’re the prime place to shout out the features, benefits and value-to-the-customer of your offering.

I’ll work with you to write describe your products and services accurately and attractively, in a tone and style that suits your brand.

  • Articles and press releases

Launching a new product or service?

A professional article or press release can make the latest goings-on in your business newsworthy and get eyeballs on your fancy new offering.

I can write press-releases and articles for submission externally, to promote a specific product, service or anything else, to help your business’ PR and outreach efforts.

  • Print materials

While most of my work is online, I also write content intended for use in printed materials. This could include sales letters and flyers, leaflets and brochures for use at trade-shows, or guides, information and menus for venues and the hospitality sector.

Additional Services

  • WordPress services – I’ll upload content directly to your CMS or blogging platform (I’m skilled in WordPress.org and Drupal, and familiar with other platforms like WordPress.com, Blogger, SquareSpace and Wix), and can advise and make minor updates too
  • Image sourcing – Sourcing relevant licensed images (from reputable stock photography agencies), to help your site grab attention and look the part
  • Content strategy and Blog writing – Now that you’ve got the copy on the high-traffic pages down, I can work up a content strategy (and even write your blog posts) to keep your audience reading and give them relevant, up-to-date information about your business, your products and your industry
  • Website proofing and editing – Maybe your website copy doesn’t need a full rewrite. If you just want to give it a once-over from a professional I’ll take a look and clean up any messy mistakes or spelling faux pas

Food-Specific Blogging & Writing Services

Food Photography

Completely self-taught, I learned food photography through trial-and-error in my first food blog, EatsLeeds.co.uk.

As part of my freelance journey, I’ve undertaken many food photography projects, both a part of food writing and recipe development assignments, and independently shooting menus for local food businesses.

I have written about my journey learning and practicing food photography here.

As I have no formal training in photography, and consider myself to be very much still learning on the job, my prices for food photography jobs are very competitively priced. Get in touch, or fill in the form below, to find out more about working together on a food photography project.

I also offer high-quality, semi-professional food photography in Yorkshire or remotely.

Images can be delivered in social-media-ready formats and sizes.

Recipe Development

Developing recipes to use as content on your site is kind of my jam. Its one of the things I excel at (and one of my all-time favourite activities. Leftovers, anyone?).

I work with you to develop recipes, to feature on your website and across social media. Recipes are a great way to showcase your products, and inspire readers to

I specialise in the free-from space, though I am more than able to develop recipes outside this niche.

My background in food blogging (both on my first blog EatsLeeds.co.uk and for various clients) has set me up to be able to develop, test and format recipes for the web.

Besides professional recipe development, I have a wealth of food knowledge and a passion for kitchen experimentation and unorthodox dining. Brought up by former-restaurateurs, I (naturally) married a chef, and have over a decade’s experience working in food service (from waiting tables to assisting in kitchens) under my own belt, too.

Additional Services

  • Content strategy and Blog writing – Now that you’ve got the copy on the high-traffic pages down, I can work up a content strategy (and even write your blog posts) to keep your audience reading and give them relevant, up-to-date information about your business, your products and your industry
  • Website copywriting – While you’re up-levelling your content strategy, you may want to consider sprucing up your website copy too. From about-pages to home-page copy, I can re-write your high-traffic pages, to work with your brand and appeal to your customers

Additional Blogging and Content Services

The core of my business is based on blogging and content writing: I’m good at it, I know it and I love doing it.

I do offer other, peripheral, services too though. These are things that I’m pretty good at, I know pretty well, and I really enjoy doing. They may not be the heart and soul of my business, but they go hand-in-hand with blogging and content writing. I also provide:

Website Proofing and Editing

I’m also available to proof, edit and tweak your existing content and copy, to make sure its just right (and to catch that glaring typo before it lands in front of your customer).

I have a keen eye for detail and I want your content to be top notch. If you’ve got focussed, engaging content all sorted, you might want someone impartial to take a quick look. I offer editing from simple proof for grammar and spelling, to a more in-depth edit to smooth out your copy.

I can review existing website content and offer feedback, or regularly proof your latest blog posts.

Social Media Copy

Getting your social messages right is just as important as getting your website content right. Social media is an essential element of business branding.

As standard, your posts should be shared at least once on each channel – but the rules and best practices differ widely across Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Google +, and any other channel you can can think of.

I’ll write engaging social media messages or captions, tailored to each channel, to increase the reach of your posts.

Image Sourcing

I’ll source images for your blog posts and website pages, with relevant licenses (suitable for commercial use), from reputable stock photography agencies.

I’ll choose images that are relevant to the topic, appealing to your audience and on-brand with your business.

Images can be delivered in social-media-ready formats and sizes, to increase engagement in the newsfeed.

WordPress Services

I’ve implemented, customised and maintained many wordpress sites, including wedding websites and my own blogs (ZoePickburn.com and EatsLeeds.co.uk)

I don’t build websites from scratch, but I have a good knowledge of WordPress, including basic security and back-up best practices, and am able to quickly and easily install WordPress on a self-hosted site.

I am used to working with themes, and can customise a free or premium WordPress theme with your brand colours and typography, populate it with your copy, set up the basics of SEO best-practices, to give you a solid and professional WordPress site.
